Tip 2 of my Top 10 Tips and Tricks for building a search engine optimized (SEO) website from the ground up is Keyword Selection.
Keyword Selection is the process of selecting the best keyword or keyword phrases from a list that has already been researched to used to bring the most valuable visitors to a website.
Now you have compiled this large list of relevant keywords. You have used some of the great keyword research tools to find out how many people search on these terms. You’ve discovered how many sites contain these keyword. Now what?
You will need to group your keyword/keyword phrases into like categories. Group like keywords and keyword phrases into chunks of like information. These groups should be spot on for the topic/s for your website.
Choose the highest level keyword/s for the main topic of each page. The highest level keyword is most likely the ones with the highest amount of searches. Add the correlating keywords and keyword phrases under each topic. The example I will use is “golf”. Golf is the highest level for use on a this test site. If you are going to only carry golf clubs you probably wouldn’t want to use golf.

Now you will need to do some more keyword research to make sure you have the full lists of relevant keywords and or phrases to use on your site. You search under each term or phrase you have chosen and create many lists for each page you are planning to create. From the main golf list I have chosen “golf club” as one of my topics I will use.

Now I searched on golf clubs and have chosen another phrase “golf clubs clone”. You are going to want 2-5 sub topics on each page. This is where your second round of keyword or phrase research comes in. You will need to do this for every page you plan on creating.

The value of a keyword or keyword phrase is first and foremost the relevance to your products or services offered by your website. The next factor as to the keyword value is the number of times the keyword or phrase has ben used in a search. The number of competitors the particular keyword or keyword phrase has is a key to how hard it will be to rank in the search results for that term.
Once you have a handle on the keyword or keyword phrases you are planning to use on each page it is time to consider your next step. So next time we will deal with Theme Selection.
By the way, I use NicheBot for all of my keyword research. Check it out if you’d like.
